Thai Airways Intl operates taxis and limos marked with its logo. Flat rate THB500 ($13), plus BHT50 ($1.30) meter fee. No tip. A/C. Airport Associate Co. Ltd. operates similar service, BHT650 ($17). Buy ticket at desk outside customs. At least 1 hr during peak time (90 min to Eastern Bus Terminal, 2 hrs to Southern Bus Terminal), but insist driver takes 10-mi expressway or trip could be much longer. Some regular taxis do not have meters: take time to agree on fare before getting in. To downtown hotels, fares should range THB300-400 ($7.85-10.50). Pattaya THB1000-1500 ($26-39), 3 hrs. All fares are now plus BHT50 ($1.30) to cover the cost of the security system described below.

NOTE The Airport Authority of Thailand has instituted a new control system to provide more taxis and better service and to maintain reasonable prices and safe practices. Outside yellow-plate taxis must register with AAT officers upon entering the airport. The driver must give the passenger a copy of his service card with his name and registration number. Then, if there is a valid problem, the driver will no longer be allowed into the airport.

Limousines to hotels and VIPcar service, THB650 ($17) OW, THB1200 ($31.50) RT, at least 1 hr. RT. Tickets sold on first floor of Terminals 1 & 2.. Express Jet Airport Ferry Service also available to Marriott dock, a good way to beat the traffic..

The Airport Authority operates A/C buses marked AIRPORT BUS every 30 min 5:30 am-12:30 am on four routes to many hotels. Route A-1 (to Silom) goes south; A-2 (to Sanam Luang/Grand Palace) goes west; A-3 (to Thonglor) goes east; A-3 ends at the main rail station. Buses, staffed by English-speaking drivers and hostesses, depart from Terminal 1 arrival hall and wherever "Bus Stop Airport Bus" is posted. Fare: THB100 ($2.60). At least 1 hr.

No. 4, 10, 13 and 29 are A/C, fare THB16 (40¢). Every 10-15 min, A/C buses operate 5 am-11 pm; others 24 hrs. 1-hr. Bargain trip to city center but jam-packed.

Rail station opposite the airport, every 15 min 6 am-8 pm, THB5 (10¢), 40 min.
